I had this problem, and i resolved it by turning the laptop round and facing the other way. I have NO IDEA why it worked, but it did.

Heres how it is. You have this answer already but heres how it works! The problem exists within the relationship between your PC / Laptop and your router. Nothing Else!!!!!! The ISP is not relevant here. In order to relove your problem you need to resolve the connection between the router and PC/ LAPTOP! 1. Take the plug out of your router. (for at least 3 mins.... not 3 seconds) 2. Turn your PC off. DO that now !!!! read the rest of this!!!! 1. Try to connect as normal. Routers sometimes need a reeboot. 2. Check the wireless key has been entered correctly. This definatly the most probable answer. 3. If the wireless key is very long. Change it in the security settings in your router. Older laptops and PC's cant cope with long security keys. 4. Disable you Firewall for a few minuites try to reconnect to see if it is blocking you connection. 5. Upgrade to the latest service pack from windows update website. 6. update to the latest drivers of your wifi card. If you work down this list you should find your answer. Pete

Wireless is affected by a multitude of things. Wires in walls, atmospheric conditions and as one answer indicated the direction you are facing with relationship to the signal. Indoors a signal if only good for about 300 feet and depends on what and how many walls it has to go through. There are range boosters and other items that are intended to assist but i have not had much luck with them. The biggest interference I have found is Heating and A/C pipes and vents. Good Luck

Replace the WiFi adaptor with a Pre-N one, which has the option to use an external antenna array.
You can then place the antenna higher up, and "fine-tune" its position
