How do I retrieve my former favorite sites that are bookmarked on my computer, now that I have downloaded Internet Explorer. I am so upset that I have lost all those as it is like starting all over again...I had all my bank accounts, professional stites, etc. Please help.

I just finished downloading it also, but I didn't lose anything. Something must have gone awry while it was loading. Unless, as another has suggested, the buttons are very different, and take some getting used to. The only thing I have noticed is that the 'flying window' showing the comp. is 'working' is gone, and I wish it was still there.

You can't. You didn't really think that Microcrap really cared about whether you would lose your data, did you?

And it's not just your bookmarks or saved passwords. If you changed any WinExplorer settings (eg. setting a JPG to open with an image viewer instead of Infernal Exploder) you've lost them too.

The only think to do now is search the recycle bin and look for bookmark files, if they haven't been deleted or overwritten.

well, there are ways of getting the settings back, and getting a browser even better than IE7 in the process

Download Firefox...

Free, fast, a small 5mb download, Firefox blocks pop-ups and sites from secretly installing programs on your computer. It will copy over your settings from other browsers (cookies, settings, bookmarks). Firefox is powerful too, it's more up-to-date than even IE7 according to the web standards (w3.org).

The main reason I like Firefox is because it's customizable.

Why is customizability important?

Imagine being able to do 2 small things and never seeing a banner ad, flash ad or an iframe ad again? (Remember, pop-ups are already gone)
Imagine being able to pause your computer's music player when the phone rings without having to switch to it?

Firefox puts the power back in your hands!

You have just become a victim of technology. Do you think the programmers that put this thing together give a ratsass about any of your stuff? No. Your stuff is an obstacle in their la-la-land view of life. When I was in kindergarten we used to get gold stars pasted on our foreheads if we were good and did not cause any trouble. They just rearranged the room for no reason and everything is in a different place and you cannot find it. Now it seems it might be your stuff has a gold star pasted on it. This is too worrisome for me and I think I will pass on upgrading? to that thing. Much too scary.

So now you are the technological equivalent of being run over by a bus. Programmers call being run over by a bus an "upgrade".

This is NOT normal... I have installed this on many machines and NEVER had this happen (even with the Beta version!)

Are you sure that you are simply not recognizing the new icon for favorites?

It is the big yellow star, near the upper left of the IE7 windows!

Be careful.
Do not attempt to modify
the WINDOWS FOLDERS !
Open:
C:/windows/
look for Favorites folder
type named : shell favorite folder.
.Copy Paste the file in My Documents.
Rename it Favorites.htm
Even if you update to IE7 the folder is not lost.
Go to IE7. click file
Select Import/ Export.
In XP the folder will/may be in Documents and Settings.
under your user name.
I have to look it up in my laptop/Notebook.
PS: confirmed. The yellow star !

Be careful with IE7, at the present moment it is 100% unpatched, this means you are vulnerable to spyware etc.

You should use Firefox
