Evolutionary? The competition for mating. From an evolutionary perspective, men had to compete for the fittest females. They had to impress her more than the other men.... strength, virility, ect... or lose out. Today, its not looked at quite as primitively, but it still comes down to fear of rejection, or feeling not quite good enough.

why do some animals do a mating dance instead of directly mating ?

anyway i think because it arouses the primal spirit to prepare for mating , but social and religious boundries check that so it gets out as a freak out.

By freaking out, do you mean showing off?

It's their way of attempting to get the woman's attention.

If you mean acting stupid....then I don't know. It's one of those mysteries of life however, it could be the equivalent of girls getting giggly and stupid when in the presence of an extremely attractive man.

People are stupid.

We freak out because where like "Holy mother of god! Do i look good enough? Omfg, I don't have this..." . We freak out because we fear we don't look good enough for her to notice us.
