We were told that if you did, a red circle ring would float around you alerting others you peed in the pool. Is that true? Is there really something you can put in your pool that can let you know if you peed?

Nope! Just a tale to keep you from peeing in the pool.

fun little sign that I saw at one community pool:
OOL
Notice there's no "P" in our pool... we'd like to keep it that way.

It isn't a little red circle ring, but yes, there is something that can be added to pool water that will change color if someone pees in the pool.
There was, in fact, a quite famous court case about this because a community pool used it, a woman peed in the water and the water around her changed color. She sued on the grounds that she was caused public embarrassment!

Not true no. It's just to try and get kids not to pee in the pool. There is so much chlorine in a public pool that it kills any bacteria but no one wants to be swimming in a pool full of pee.
