depends on what country you live in, if it is the USA, The UK , etc. then yes English is important to a successful career. If it's a non-English speaking country, you may have a good career and successful just speaking the native language of that particular country. But as in any country it is always a good idea to be able to communicate in more than 1 language because it can only give you a leg up on competition.

If you are working for a company which makes international business, of if it is a multinational, even though at some positions you may never use English, you have to think that if you want a chance to grow and climb to higher positions, this will be a must, you will have to be able to take part in conference calls, write emails or even host foreign visitors.
For that it is not enough to have an average level English, for expressing properly in the language will make you a better negotiator, besides the image you will show as your company representative.
Besides, learning a language is an ongoing process, even your own. You should read a lot, mainly in your area of business, to become familiar to expressions, special vocabulary. Think of it as the clothing of your expression. If you want to look as an uneducated fellow, you don't need to worry much, but if you want be respected and considered as a professional, you should wear your best to suit the ocasion.
Good luck.

throughout history, there has also been 1 language that most educated people used for business or to talk to other people who did not speak their language. Among these languages, have been Italian, French, German, etc. Right now, the language of business is English. Therefore, if you want to do business in most countries of the world and do not speak the language of your host country, you can easily find people who speak English. The ability to communicate is critical and there has to be a common language..

If you are part of an English speaking society, speaking English well and being able to express your ideas clearly is important to do your job well. If you are part of a society that doesn't speak English, most likely, English is a second language and is used to communicate with others outside your community, as well as being able to be proficient on the computer, etc.

I taught English in some Mexican companies. The employers may have business interests with USA or other English speaking countries. So it is the employer that pays English speakers better, not the USA.

It relies upon on the place you reside and what occupation determination you're making! Bi-lingual is often an benefit in any occupation, yet once you reside in say the middle east, it incredibly is extra helpful to check German or another language. in case you do no longer plan on working for an organization that does company with u.s.
