You mean solar system.
It's kinda up in the air. Something less than 400 members of the 10,000 member IAU voted under a veil of assumed authority to downgrade Pluto's status as a planet after they rewrote the rule book. Most of the new criteria they established that must be met in order for an object to be considered a planet is met by Pluto. It orbits a star, it has a moon, and it is generally spherical in shape. The disqualifying new rule was that Pluto has not cleared its orbital path around the sun and there are other objects sharing the same orbit. This would mean that if another object enters or is found to exist in the same orbital path of the Earth, the Earth would not be a planet. The IAU also failed to take into consideration as to whether or not Pluto is in the process of clearing its orbital path and just needs a few billion more years.
Add to this the unusual construction of some of the other so called planets and confusion continues to mount. Jupiter, for instance, gives off more energy than it absorbs from the sun and is gaseous being constructed more like the sun than the Earth. Some scientists believe that fusion is also taking place at its core. You could say that it is more like a colder star than a planet, whatever a planet is.
So, who knows how many planets there are?

No. The universe is more than our solar system. The universe is more than our galaxay. Recently, astronomers have changed the status of Pluto. In that case it makes our solar system have 8 planets instead of 9. Also, there are indications of planets with no associated star. The planets found outside our solar system are called exoplanets. Astronomers have already found over 100 nearby in the last 10 years or so! Just imagine the possibilities.

There are only eight planets in this solar system. There are an unknown number of planets in the universe, but there are probably millions of planets out there.

Actually there are probably trillions of planets in the entire universe. I'm still counting them.
If you're talking about our solar system, where have you been for the last six months when 500,000,000,000,000 people have been asking the stupid Pluto question?

You wish to mention "in this Solar system", right ?

it is correct that we only have 8 major planets in our solar system but in our universe, it can be numerous that we cannot able to count it..
i'd said "major" planets because even if pluto had lost its "planet" status, it is considered as a "minor" planet, together with sedna, asteroid ceres, and another finding..
i hope i've answered your question..

Er, are you asserting that we could desire to continuously connect spiritually to eight-10 planets trillions of miles away? in my view, i might decide to apply a radio telescope. technology says that Earth like planets are statistically extra uncomplicated than that, and that planets that are no longer earth like could additionally spawn existence see you later as they have particular factors, yet so some distance there is not any evidence that we are able to make religious touch with them and there is not any longer something that i know of interior the suitable religions that shows making religious connections with aliens is feasible/ideal. in actuality they point out no longer something in any respect approximately aliens in any respect.
