Most people don't really know what a transsexual is. Any obviously male person in a dress is a transsexual to them, whether it is an authentic transsexual or someone like RuPaul.

Tying into the first thing, there is a lack of visibility. Most transsexuals who pass do not disclose their status to anyone but their closest relationships (sometimes only close friends, sometimes only lovers, sometimes nobody). This lack of visibility leads to the common perception that a transsexual is someone who obviously looks like a man in a dress. It's only the bad examples that you notice.

mostly because many of them use their difference to make money by selling themselves (this is how the society met transsexuals just like the first determination of AIDS in homosexuals which created a very negative look over them for may years). Besides, from my point of view i personally don't really like people who refuse what they are, deal with their body that much (that's no sign of a serene mind or self-peacefulness) and pretend like smo else. But i must add that this dislike of mine is valid for instance for women who put on too much make up to seem attractive and etc, it's just because my personal choice is naturality. I guess most of the people think that way. But it's ok, if you'r feeling something else from what your appearance is, and if its too much disturbing, its your body, and your free will (after psychological counselling) to change it. But i don't know, there are so many things we'd like to change about ourselves, there's no end of it...that's the part i cannot resolve, up to where?

Fighting intolerance with violent intolerance - uh, yeah that's the answer. Ever notice how violent some supposedly open-minded people are towards other people who have a different opinion from them? Frightening.

Anyhoo, it's all basic human psychology. When something is not part of the perceived norm it's natural to think it weird simply because the strange thing in question is not common place.

Americans thought eating sushi in the 80s was weird (and elitist) but now all you can eat sushi bars are everywhere and sophisticated snobs can no longer score snobs points for saying they've eaten it.

What's needed is time and patience not violence or theatrics. Shoving an issue down people's throats when they're not ready for it will just get you a Bush re-election

Bit by bit the "weird" will become the norm. But until that time you can't exactly blame people for acting instinctively and thinking something that they are not accustomed to is weird. That's human history and society everywhere and everywhen.

Patience, grasshopper.

Of course if someone chucks a brick at you for being weird, chuck one back at the motherf*cker

Fear of the unknown. But slowly, transsexual people are gaining much more visibility and acceptance. In time, society will come to understand that there are many people who are what the Native Americans call "two spirit" people.

Most are just afraid of themselves, and their own sexuality.
Its human nature to fear the unknown, and very few people actually take the time to learn anything about the rest of the world around them. It's human nature. sucks, but there it is.
And you do have to admit that some gurls do tend to try to shove their lifestyle in others faces, and that just intimidates some, as well as makes it harder on you.

I don't think transexuals are weirder than anyone else. We most of us like something sexually that someone else would deem weird. Screw 'em I say. Hell I got a list of fetishes long as your arm.
The one thing I will say is that I don't know who they think they're kidding. I have never seen a transexual who wasn't obviously a man. That may not be the point, but I don't know.

Because they are selfish and ignorant. Education will never work for people like those because to them, they are perfect. Whoever that's 'different' from them are not up to their 'physical' standards.

Trust me, if I had enough money, I would employ people from the Russian mob, the Japanese Yakuza, and the Italian Mafia to beat-up and terrorize those those who do not have respect for transsexuals, gays, and lesbians. Unfortunately, the KKK is on my dream hit list too. Racism should be banned from earth.

Sorry I got carried away. People don't think transsexuals are weird, its just that they choose to either ignore the reason behind it, or they are simply unfortunate to not have exposure to the life and being of a transsexual.

i think it a lack of understanding
people fear us for that
they think we are weird as to them there gender is what it is
we question our self more and therefore we know what we want or need this is why we seem strong minded to alot of people
the other thing might be the way we crossdress
or the how much we pass
people are so judgmental went it comes to us
at least we are doing something about it and living our lives our way
being true to our self's
egnor the the people that may hate hurt or dilike you live you life

sherry....WE TG's are not weird. it the REST of the world that is a bit off kilter. when society as a whole does not understand that "different" is good and they refuse on the whole to even take the time to even try to understand that "different is good", they, as a general rule, say case closed, go stomping off to their corners and pout. screaming and yelling at the tops of their lungs "we dont want to hear it", it not what WE wanted to hear about, so if we dont want to hear about it, its weird, or unacceptable to us. as we both know, normal, for the most part, at one time or another was "weird and unacceptable". the main stream of society just refuses to hear any voices other than their own.
