Hi, good question, Its always older people who make this remark, when you are young a day can be so long, and you really can`t imagine 20 or 30 yrs ahead, and also you tend to live for the here and now.
as you get older middle to elderly age life dosen`t seem that long anymore, you are more aware of your own mortality, and leaves you are more aware also of what you could do or re-do if time was on your side.
also there are people who fight getting old and regret the aging process, again some people have had such full meaningful lives and they too mourn the fact that time is robbing them of more of the same.
many are the reasons for saying life`s too short and we will all probably say it sometime in our lives, the important thing is too live well and have few regrets.

When people say that life is too short they mean that life is over too soon.

They say "Life's too short" because it really is. Life goes by so fast that, before you know it, much of your life has passed you by. For example:

It seems like only yesterday, my first child was born. That was nine years ago.

It seems like it was just a short time ago when I got married. I remember it like it was yesterday. It was actually 18 years ago!

People need to live life to the fullest EVERY day..before you know it its over. You never know, you may get hit by a bus, get cancer, die in a terrorist attack tomorrow....

It means that it goes by very very quickly and we should stop worrying about the small things in life, strive for our dreams and live life to the full! One of my favourite sayings when I'm feeling guilty about spending money on something is "shrouds have no pockets!"

It just means that life's too short to worry about minor annoyances.

Compared to eternity life on earth is but a fraction of a second. Compared to the history of man, each life is but a second.

Generally people say that because, either they feel they haven't done enough with their lives or they don't want to wast anymore time on something they feel is annoying.
Hope this helps.
