We're off to Borneo on our honeymoon and have booked some diving already. What else is good to see or do?

Which side of Borneo?

1. West side belongs to Malaysia, (Sabah province) Probably the best place for honeymoon. Kota Kinabalu is very touristic with many luxury hotels and resorts, beautiful beaches and diving places. You can go and climb Mount Kinabalu, the highest peak in Malysia. 4095m hight .No mountaineering skills needed. Count 2-3 days days. Then of course the Orang-Utans.

2. Brunai (West side as well). Islamic country, No alcool, no discos etc. Although the sultan of Brunai is the richest man in the world, the people in his country are not better off than in Malaysia or Indonesia. Nothing interesting to see except for the probiscus monkeys perhaps. Better forget the place, especially for honeymoon.

3. Kalimantan. Province of Indonesia. Best for wildlife and jungle treks. Rafting as well. Here as well you can go for Orang Utan trekking. But, unless you are more into backpacking, this is not an ideal honeymoon place either.

My suggestion: Sabah, Kota Kinabalu, Shangrilah resort (5 stars), diving and easy trekkings, and climb Kinabalu to enjoy a sunrise which you will never forget....... Whaoooo, what a honeymoon :-)

As usual theres a load of rubbish in some of the foregoing answers.
Brunei IS worth a visit, a free theme park. The people are much better off than malaysians,
Sabah is not "owned by Malaysia", it is one of the 2 component states of Malaysia on the island of Borneo., and is well worth a visit - Mount Kinabalu, the hot springs, numerous resorts which have already been mentioned, the orang outan sanctuary and the friendly people. Labuan a Malaysian federal territory is one hour from Brunei by Ferry, on remembrance day there will be a large commemorative service in the war cemetery. Labuan is also easily accessible from Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur and Kuching. Kuching is the state capital of Sarawak the other malaysian state in Borneo, also worth a visit for its history and modern buildings. Sarawak was the home of the Brookes, the white rajahs.

Nature, basically animals u will not be able to see in some other parts of the world. Borneo rainforest is one of the oldest in the world. And of course the beaches are spectacular for scuba diving. Pls do not forget to check out Karambunai in Sabah.

depending on which part of borneo. KK is great for diving esp in sipadan. Seafood in KK is awesome as well. Restaurant is located just next to the promenade hotel. If your off to Brunei, you can stay at the empire hotel. www.theempirehotel.com . You must at least come and see it. It'll blow you away. Food there is awesome too. I love their local dishes.

As for sarawak, there a few diving spots, shopping, and great caves to visit. Recommend the mulu park.

Hope this helps a bit.
