I would say yes. In the sixties at Secondary school I would start at 8:55 have a 15 minute playtime at around 10:45 break for a 90 minute lunch break at 12:30 back at 2:00 and finish at 3.45. In the Juniors we wold finish at 4.00 but would have had a 15 minute playtime in the afternoon. The day didn't seem long to me but my local Comp now starts at 8.30, with a 15 minute morning break, a 30 minute lunch break and school closes at 2.40. I think this could mean that the kids are not eating breakfast, cramming a "junk" lunch and going home to an empty house. There's a lot to think about and assess. The thinking behind the timetable at the local school is that because it is a Sports College the early finish gives time for sporting activities after school.

Why dont we have home tutors on a one to one basis with vetted Teachers. The hours could be flexible for both pupils and Teachers, with the pupils ringing their teachers when they have got out of bed. It would stop the school run in the morning, which would help to cut down on carbon emmissions, help people to get to work more smoothly in the morning, thus controlling road-rage, and ease congestion, thus allowing for a stress free society that relies on getting to work in a good mood.

I think the days are very long for the younger children. I'd like to see shorter days and less holidays.
I think that a four year old in school for most of the day is barbaric!
Senior school is ok.

As a teach, yes it does. It needs to start a little earlier and finish early. School holidays in particular the summer one, needs to be shorter in order for pupils to retain learning.

First they need to change the schooling methods ... The current system evidently isn't working. They should have military school. Scare the little people into learning!

Roo has got a point. I think they should start at 8am and finish at 7pm. That way it gives them less time to loiter outside my house causing mayhem between 2.30 (that's when they finish now) and 6pm when their parents' get back from the pub.
