Only Hunters have combat pets. (Warlocks have minions but that doesn't really count, and Druids are their own pets.) You can get non-combat pets from a variety of sources, including:
* Vendors - such as the owl trainer in Darnassus, or the crazy cat lady in Elwynn
* Drops - On rare occasions certain critters will drop one of their young which is a pet either immediately or after you do certain things. Also, certain mobs drop their own pets - for example in Deadmines you sometimes get parrots from the pirates and Cookie sometimes has a Siamese cat.
* Quests - Usually these are obscure and nobody tells you about them. They may be very extensive and dangerous. One of the easiest and cheapest for humans is the prairie chicken in Westfall.
* Built - Engineers can make mechanical squirrels and mechanical chickens. There's others at higher levels.

As a warrior, you're mostly limited to non-combat pets - which can either be purchased, found via drops, or on a few quests (such as the sprite darter hatchling). Notable exceptions would be if you're an engineer, where you can get things like mechanical dragons or combat chickens - they've got a long cooldown, but they can help in a tough combat.
Finally, hit the Scarlet Monastery - the Houndmaster drops a whistle that'll summon a Scarlet Hound. It'll last a minute or two each time, and there's 3 charges.

You can buy a pet from any vendor that sells pets or you can get a pet dropped by a mob or as a reward for completing a quest. Pets don't do anything though. The only pets that do anything are hunter's pets which warriors cannot have.

The only pet classes are the Warlock(summons) and Hunter(Tames stuff). For the rest you only really have the mount you get at level 40, which is technically a pet.
Although if you know any engineers they can possibly make you a pet, such as the fearsome mechanical squirrel or the bombling.

You buy one.
I believe you might have to be level 30+ for quite a few of them and unless they say otherwise their only use is for looks since they won't help you in battle. The price depends on which one you want.
There are cats, snakes, owls, parrots, wargs, a kitten, a cockroach, tiny dragons called weirlings, some mechanical pets and more.
Here is a pretty good link showing the ones I know of.

Also its still possible to get some of the horde pets if you are alliance if you buy them from the non faction auction houses in Tanaris, Everlook, and Booty Bay.
