It should be above bare subsistence, and then indexed to inflation. Then politicians would not have to seek increases every few years, and it would not matter which party was in power; people in covered jobs would have a living wage.

I think it should be set where when an adult has a job he is making enough to live on. This Republican Congress we have, has turned down every min. wage increase before them. And they have voted themselves a raise every time. Since in office the middle class is getting hit hard. Not to mention the poor. Most people on welfare are there for two reasons. 1. Welfare is more than min. wage or 2. There is no jobs. Because we have outsourced most of them overseas. Most people want to work,
Our Congress has let us down over the last eight years and the White house has a lot to do with it. A failed presidency with failed policies. Just ask any soldier's family how they make it on his wages. We ask the soldier to sacrifice everything and we have people who want to work, then we have little smart mouths like you who doesn't have a clue about reality and the real world.

No...the source of jobs is small business. A larger number of small businesses will be forced to close with an extreme minimum wage increase which in turn foreces more people, formerly employed people, to be out of work and on welfare.
Moderate wage increases over time are required.
Of course, living beyond one's economic means is a larger root cause problem of people living in welfare conditions. Ever seen a low income teenager with a $300 iPod and $150 pair of Nikes?
No single action alone can solve welfare problems. It requires many coordinated actions.

Minimum wage needs to be set at the rate of inflation.
Then it will be a lot fairer. The EU has done that for years.

The minimum salary is superb the place it incredibly is sturdy now. permit's think of approximately it, in case you strengthen minimum salary to $7.25, small company might conflict much extra to hit upon counsel on a thank you to minimize overhead, thus fewer people being employed, the fee of things and amenities might bounce dramtically. you think of gas expenses are severe now???? the fee of residing might advance in basic terms as rapidly using fact the minimum salary, being offset. Healthcare expenditures might skyrocket. the less funds your corporation has to make contributions to medical well being insurance, the extra we'd ought to pay out of pocket. It does no longer be incredibly!

Of course, people that work for a living should be rewarded. People on welfare should be kept from starving.

Sounds like a good idea to me. This might actually get some of the lazy ones off of their big fat butts. Look at it this way. Hey more money if I go out and get a job. Or stay home and get less money.
