if it has a dial type control, see if the dial keeps going until cycle would normally finish.if not it may be the timer which can be replaced fairly reasonably.if so it's probably the pump which costs almost as much as a new dishwasher to replace.if it has digital or only push button controls try a different cycle setting.if it pumps out on any cycle at all it indicates a timer problem.you may want to bail some of the water out before trying this so as not to get it too full and have it overflow.

Well Mick: you didn't wash your fishtank with gravel in it, some people have that's why I'm asking. Believe this also, I've had little girls wash their mud incaked dishes in the washer also, mommy didn't notice or care. It goes on and on but.....it's my guess there's something in the pump of course,
This is a job for the Sears repairman, give them a call and go back to washing by hand until?
If you have the guts and some knowledge about mechanical things. Take the basket off the pump, in the back inside of the washer. Careful of the screws if any. See what you can see in there, just maybe. But, don't void your warranty, if you have one, leave it alone. And careful of the heating or dryer unit, you can get shocked, I did.
