this would be a party that:

a) stands for civil liberties - free speech, free press, right to assemble, in essence everything in the bill of rights except the outdated absolute of the right to bear arms (guns ok with restrictions and licensing). we don't care if you're gay, straight or chartreuse - whatever you do in your bedroom is your business, as long as it doesn't affect us.

b) campaign finance reform - drastic. the publicly owned airwaves (and they are publicly owned) will be given over to x amount of time per campaign year per candidate for a live presentation. no paid commercials. no contribution, individual or corporate, over US$500. period. no loopholes! i mean none. fullstop.

c) fiscal responsibilty. no more corporate welfare. the rich pay their share. the middle class gets a break, the poor get a leg up when necessary.

d) responsible, pragmatic foreign policy. anything but the bush-cheney model.

e) generous funding of public (not private) education

what shall we call it? How about the Internet Party

i understand the sentiment of people who say don't vote a party, vote independent - but let's face it, individual independents don't scare anyone. we need a real force, one that gets attention.

I agree with you wholeheartedly; in fact, I was thinking of answering a similar question. You forgot one thing though health care for everyone we are the richest country in the world.
To answer your question I wish I knew how to get it started it is what we need as much as I disagree with republicans I do not think I am better represented by democrats. The only exception being the republicans need to invade our personal lives. This is a perplexing question and one that needs to be answered.

I'm the most sane person I know!! (Said with tongue in cheek)

I believe in free speech. I also believe that speaking freely should occur with a degree of forethought on how that speech will affect everyone, not just me or my beliefs.

I believe in responsible press. The press is for reporting the news, not making the news up.

Restrictions and licensing on guns exist now.

I don't care if someone is gay. Why does someones sexual orientation need to be exploited for political gain?

Campaign Finance Reform... Wow.. Can you say George Soros??!!??

Fiscal Responsibility... Amen brother. The rich should pay their fair share. Fair being the key word here. Everyone should pay their fair share.

Foreign Policy... Well, the Bush/Cheney version certainly has had a few problems but I would rather kick @$$ then kiss @$$ like Clinton did. China is the up and coming world super power for one reason, Bill Clinton. Of course, Billy got his money worth, literally.

Generous funding of education. Not a problem if *everyone* is paying their fair share of taxes.

You are way behind the curve on this one
The opportunity to start a political party with any hopes at all for success in the future is dead !!!
With the recent changes to existing law that has been signed into action within just this past two weeks---our hopes of having anything near a true Constitutional government ended !!
By enactment-- the laws that have been signed into action without much of any kind of notice at all-- let alone mention by most media--- allows the President to actually set American troops on to American citizens at his personal call to do so---and ellimantes the posse cometatus laws that have existed for centuries in this country that says we can take up arms to defend ourselves !!!
The gig is up and the idea for another political party is just so simply passe at this point as to be ludicirous !!!

I think they call that the socialist party. Most of your ideas are right on. You problem comes when you want a single party to have them. That would leave us with a choice of one. All parties have good ideas to lead with. That is why voting a straight ticket is never a wise thing to do. Be independent in you thoughts and your votes. Vote for the best candidate with the ideas that you see best represent what you want. Both major parties have these people. A good mix of both with no clear majority should force compromise on most issues. Vote for the candidate of your choice and do not be influenced by others to make that choice for you. You should never vote for a candidate because of a local newspaper support or a Union support. Use your own mind to see what each candidate stands for , then make a choice independent of outside influence.

Cross between the Green party and the Libertarian
Common sense could go a long way in straightening out this country!

Your common sense is like a breath of fresh air....we need a viable third party even if it means revolution.....and there is nothing MORE American and MORE patriotic then dissent and revolution! We need another Boston Tea Party, only this time we throw all the existing politicians overboard.

It is unlikely to happen because anyone sane enough to espouse to your ideals is also sane enough to avoid politics like the plague.
