like is it kept in the air, on other computers or a satalite. dunno.

On computers with a lot of storage - very large hard drives and super fast internet connections. Yahoo use Inktomi for their servers in California I think. They then download pages from websites and search them for keywords and follow the links to other sites and collect infomation from all over the Internet. It started with words, then images and now video. Images mostly get found by file name - but new techniques will allow you to enter words like man, woman, dog and it will find images with a man, woman and dog in them.

The internet is just a bunch of servers around the globe that are interconnected so information can be sent, received, or viewed.

They are all connected via cables that travel around the globe believe it or not. There are fiber optic cables that run from the US accross the bottom of the ocean to Europe. Pretty crazy huh..
