if they are healthy ferrets an don't have any medical problems colds will not be passed on. The flu will be though. Our ferret Dopey died last year he had heart disease and would build up fluid around his heart and lungs easily so we had to be care full around him when we were sick. Boo boo and Doc only catch the flu from us. We do not keep them locked up in a cage they have free run of the house and are use to our germs so don't get sick that easy. But when they do they see the vet right away so they don't get real bad.

Now i know that the ferrets can get the flu from you and they can pass it back to you. As for the common cold, well I'm not really sure, but one of my ferrets had a runny nose when I was holding him and sneezed on me, the next day i had the sniffles, so I don't know for sure. Coulda just been a coincidence.

The human cold (rhinovirus) can not be transmitted to ferrets, however the human flu can and the ferret can pass it right back to you. It's still always a good thing to not go near or handle your ferrets if you are ill, as there can be other virus lurking. If you must handle them, where gloves or wash hands right before and after handling and wear a mask that covers your nose and mouth.

Some of the people who commented on this are VERY uneducated. Ferrets are NOT rodents. They are from the Mustileade family.

they can catch human influenza. Apparently they cannot catch human colds but I have to say that I have noticed that if I get a cold, my cats and ferrets will start sneezing and looking ill too.

no longer genuine. not one of the ABOVE. you could't get your ferret ill in case you have a chilly, flu, and so on. Nor can your ferret make YOU ill if it has an ailment or ailment. additionally, maximum cancers would be unable to be handed from animal to human or human to animal or humane to human. maximum cancers isn't a communicable ailment.

Probably, I know that people can give colds to rats so maybe its the same for other rodents...I'd just stay on the safe side and wash your hands around them or just try not to handle them too much.
