i seem to have this problem of missing precious space on my drive.im using windws xp and its on the D drive of my hard disk which has a capacity of 6.97 GB.all files included in the drive have occupy a space of 5.60 GB(including all hidden files).yet i seem to have a free space of 0nly 300 MB.what could be hte problem?and what are all the files that could be safely deleted from your windows folder to free some space?

This space is used by the files allocation table, and other reserved space by the hardware itself and by Windows XP. (Not necessarily hidden files)

Also make sure you're showing the SYSTEM FILES as well not only the hidden files.

You can do this by un-checking the Hide System Files option in the Folder Options > View pane.

Looks like the space is being taken up by your virtual memory ... for instance ... if your computer has 512mb of RAM your virtual memory (which is a portion of your hard-drive) would be 768mb ... add the 300mb of actual space you have free and that equals the difference between what you have used and what you have left

You may have your virtual memory set to high, or its possible some form of mal-wear on the disk. I would run the defrag and do so hardcore virus updating and scanning if it were me.

all the files but not windows system files go to control panel add remove .remove software ur not using but dont remove anything that says microsoft net frameword or ur video card drivers or ur sound card drives just game software and any crap software you dont use

Empty the Recycle Bin and defrag the drive.

Use ccleaner to identify and safely delete all system generated deletable files.
