Spelling seems to be a thing of the past. With all of the modern techniques like spell check people think they don't need to spell. The same is true with math. Why learn math when you can use a calculator? When I was growing up I took great pride in learning to spell new words. I'm a great speller.

I keep hoping there'll be a back-lash against the "dumbing down" that's happening (and has been for the past few years). Ordinary humans are having their strings jerked by the manipulators, who look for people's feelings of inadequacy and use them for their own ends. If people feel that they're not clever enough, then you produce newspapers that belittle the "clever".Or write racist articles condemning the people we feel are "better" than us. If they feel their accent is not good (as some people amazingly used to!) then you ridicule those people who have "posh" accents and you promote "Estuarine" English or "Jafaican" (in the U K. In Australia it's the "Ocker" accent that's being pushed!) and so on, ad nauseum. I believe everyone is worthwhile, no matter what they are good at, whether it's mathematics or knitting or house cleaning (not my greatest skill) or cooking, all things should be valued equally in my opinion. Capitalism has prevented that from happening by valuing those things which make money, while people who look after children (which is surely the most important job in any society) are paid a pittance or nothing for doing it.
The money men will destroy us all in the end, if we don't wake up and see what's happening. We're being divided at every turn. I hope the awakening will happen soon!
I'd be interested to know if you are a school-teacher, given the second line of your question.

Returning people? Returning days? How about sentence structure, grammar, and English in general? People generally aren't good at everything, Just some things. Thats why we invented spell check, calculators and such. In answer to your question really is this - no the days won't return- ever and yes chances are people could, but will they want to? Knowing your pet peeve about spelling? Specially if they can't spell, and are only super great artists or something?

I dunno. In these days of spelling check and the outright *need* for literacy, you'd think people would be better spellers than ever. But, maybe it's just because we see more writing than ever from everyday people that it *looks* like people can no longer spell.
Ever read the Lewis & Clarke diaries? They were excerpted in the Smithsonian magazine, and some of the grunts spelled better than the leaders of the expedition.
Spelling is nice, but obviously not a prerequisite for happiness.

I was going to give you my answer, but all of a sudden it became a homework assignment. I missed class when you taught how to capitalize.

Why don't you focus on context (all of things that people are trying to say) instead of minor aesthetics? Perhaps you are superficial...

Alas, no. Unfortunately, when it comes to spelling and punctuation, many young people today don't know and don't care.
