Both are daughers-in-law of Indira Gandhi. In fact, Sanjay Gandhi was Indira's pet and she was grooming Sanjay into the political scheme of things when she was alive. After Indira's death, Rajiv Gandhi filled the leadership vacuum and that's only logical. But then, why did the Congressmen start looking at Maneka as their enemy immediately thereafter. Afterall, Maneka being an Indian knows India better than Sonia and she (Maneka) should have been what Sonia is today. Looking forward to good answers.

Indian have a inharent tendency to choose something fair. This has happen in past (2000 years back) also. This can be called as "White-Philia".
Congress is a party consisting of INDIANS and therefore not exception to the above principle.
Take example, if a white-skin person come to your place you will find all are looking at him or her and not other, even if he is great person.
Therefore above has happen not due to an exception by CONGRESS PARTY. It will happen for any "BLACK SKIN INDIAN", Group of "BLACK SKIN INDIANs", "POLITICAL PARTIES", Community, Organizations, etc etc.

Although Sanjay Gandhi was Indira's pet, he did not go that well with people when compared with Rajiv Gandhi.
Rajiv Gandhi was very close to people and people liked him when compared to Sanjay,so Congress decided to go with his wife rather than Sanjay's wife.
So, Sonia is not important here. Rajiv's wife is only important.

How Jawahar lal got power and not Subhash Bose.How Indira got power and not Kamraj or Moraraji or other senior politician.What was great in Late shri Rajiv which other congress leaders were missing.So it is a power game does not go by logics open to public.International politics,Money,Muscle power and opposition to change makes it so.

Congress is not a property of one person.Leaders are elected,not selected.Majority of the people like Sonia as a person,not as daughter-in-law of Indira.Sonia is Indian just like anybody else.
