The gas prices will go right back up if we elect republicans again... The Bush/Cheney Oil Co. just lowers the prices before the elections so that everone is fooled into thinking the republicans are doing good.
Here's an idea: Buy Citgo (the cheapest) because that way you are not supporting terrorists from the middle east and perpetuating the war...
___________________
"boycott companies such as Royal Dutch Shell PLC, Chevron Corp. and Exxon Mobil Corp. saying they import too much from the Middle East. It suggests buying instead from companies like Citgo Petroleum Corp., which it says imports no Mideast oil.
Citgo is indirectly owned by Petroleos de Venezuela SA, the state oil company of Venezuela, which is a founding member of OPEC and the fourth-largest supplier of U.S. oil imports in 2005.
About half of Citgo's oil comes from Venezuela and the rest from the ever-changing spot market, which includes oil from sources including the Middle East, according to Citgo spokesman Fernando Garay.
Still, Citgo imports significantly less Middle Eastern oil than other major branded retailers such as Shell, BP PLC, ConocoPhillips, and Exxon Mobil, according to government statistics tracked by the trade publication National Petroleum News."

Gas is $2.05 here outside DC
The price is going to fluctuate due to supply and demand. Depending on the situations in the Middle East, and other market forces, the price may go up, down some more, ot stay at the current level!
As to being excited over gas prices, I do not consider $2 per gallon anything to be happy about. While it is better than $3.00 /gal. it still is expensive!

Gas is 2.19 to 2.39 for GASOLINE 2.43 to 2.60 for DIESEL FUEL ; that I have seen across the state of MICHIGAN in the U.S.
With all that is going on in the world the political atmosphere moves the market as I see it .
You can go to msn.com and get a better look at fuel prices too both local to you and around the world .

$2.37 NY metro area, they have the price over $2 a gal where they want it, they've gotten so greedy that they don't even give a phony shortage excuse anymore.
TIME LINE: My Father (1960's) "32 cents a gallon, ARE THEY NUTS !
Me getting my license (1978) "$1.00 a gallon, are they nuts !
(all gas station pumps have to be replaced now because, they could not be set at more than .99 per gallon, when made the manufacturer though that gas would NEVER EVER go past .99 a gallon, they were selling it by the "LITER" until the pumps were upgraded leaving much confusion about how much gas you were buying/getting)
ME in front of my 4 yr old boy: "$3.15 a gallon, ARE THEY NUTS" !

2.09 in Eastern NC. Gas prices will go up, I am sure and they will stay up to just before the election, go back down a little and back up after the election.
I do not get excited about gas prices as I live in the state that has the highest "added taxes" to gasoline.
I am considering building an alcohol still in my back yard and burning alcohol in my cars, but I am sure the local Sheriff will get really excited when he comes to take me to jail after finding it.

It's about $2.20 where I am. And yeah, I'm definitely waiting for it to go back up after the election. It had gotten up to $3.30 for regular at the beginning of the summer.
