Doubles which is a chase game. 1 start alone and has to touch another. They then join hands and chase and get another. They join hands and the three chase and get a fourth. Then they part into doubles and chase until everyone in the playground were captured. It sometimes took 20 minutes and the whole school were included. Good honest and healthy fun.
Five stones was popular and we made the stones from clay.

I was very shy so during the first 3 years of elementary school, I walked around the playground mostly looking down at the ground and picked up stuff and put it in my pockets. Beginning in 4th grade, I began writing poetry during recesses. But by 6th grade, I was first girl to play softball with the boys, and thats where I came out of my shell!

Now this shows my age! French skipping (with a large piece of elastic), British Bulldog, marbles and we used to play a really girllie game where we ducked in and out of peoples arched arms singing 'in and out the woods and bluebells'.

Don't know the names but.... one with a long elastic - one person at each end and one on the middle. The other with 5 stones or small bags of sand. You throw them up in the air and pick one and so on.
