This is a long and complicated answer. Almost anything and everything can happen during a normal pregnancy. My advice is to go to the bookstore and buy "The Pregnancy Book" by Dr. Sears. Another good one is "The Father to Be Book." Which my husband read and found very informative. Good luck.

There is really a vary of things that are classed as "normal" pregnancy, every pregnancy is differant its like a fingerprint no 2 are the same. Normal is when there are no complacations, complacations include: Anameia, Diabetes, pre-eclampsia, rhesus incompatibility.
The best way you can be ready for the birht if its natural or by Caesarean section is to attend anti-natal classes, but hen again labour and birth is another fingerprint, very unpridictable, I will say that its amazing and you will never forget it, your wife will go through a lot of different emotions during labour and may say some nasty things don't take it personally as most women are crazy during labour as its a pain they have never experanced and its ditterent to anything else its undescribable.
Caesareans are normally under either general anisitic or an epidural, it is major abdomenal surgery and it is a procedure that the doctor will make an incision into the abdomen and then again in the uterus so the baby can be lifted out. Most time's you woud be able to cut the cord but when deciding to have the caesarean and decussing it with your doctor advise them then if you would like to or not, if there are no complacations during the caesarean the you may be able to.
There is a site called 'YOU TUBE' that you should be able to witness what will happen during the birth to try and prepare yourself if your intrested, the site is
www.youtube.com
just take a look and you'll have a crash course. Good luck and best wishes.

My wife and I just had our first baby 10 months ago.
It was surpisingly easy. The Doctors and nurses pretty much took care of everything, but i was right there in the thick of it.
You see the doc every couple of weeks. As you near the end of the pregnancy you will make reservations at the hospital.
You go in on your day and once your wife gets dialated to about 3 1/2 - 4 cms the pain will be excruciating, thats when they put in the epidural. After that things move pretty quick. batta bing the head is coming out, the wifes fuilds are going everywhere and BOOM the baby is out.
C-section would be if the baby's vital signs are abnormal.
Its very quick. about 10 minutes and baby is out verses 10 - 30 hours of labor.

Good to hear that you're involved!
Here's a great website to try: http://www.i-am-pregnant.com
You get tons of pictures, ultrasound video clips, and information - week by week of pregnancy. Not only that, there's message forums, and an encyclopedia of knowledge where people exchange information. I've been using this website my entire pregnancy, and I love it!
