Stats are not everything.
The impact Hussey has had on he Aussie team has been far greater than Yuvraj has had on the team in the last 5-6 years. His place still is not guaranteed in the team.
Similarly, the best captain is not the one whose team keeps winning. All Dravid does is stand around looking sad, while Dhoni and co thrashed weak sides in home conditions. You call that captaincy??
I think ravid is an awesome batsman, but as a captain, he just desn't cut it. Too lalloo, too meek, senseless strategies and that declaration in Multan!!!!!!!!

Ok the voting period is 1 Aug 2005 to 8 August 2006.
Hussey - 25 769 88* 64.08 0 6 1 1/22 63.00 0 14 0
25 matches, 769 runs at 64.08 and 1 wicket
Yuvraj - 29 1161 120 58.05 4 6 8 2/32 37.50 0 10 0
29 matches, 1161 runs at 58.05. - 8 wickets.
*Husseys Career ODI average is at 77, vs Yuvaj at 34*
Hussey's job is to finish an ODI innings, so he would not score as many runs, but I know from the matches I have seen, he is usually awesome in this regard, I saw him score 88* against NZ off 56 balls, when he smashed every bowler to all parts for 10 whole overs without looking like he might give a chance.
Hussey nevers gets the chance to score a century, but when he gets a chance to finish the innings or game off, he takes every one, and that won him the award, it was about performance, not stats.
hmm, just looked at the stats a little more, man Yuvraj deserves an award. All i am thinking is that Husseys career average is twice as high as Yuvraj, and his test record, could have played a part in splitting the two.
As for captain, its more than winning series. I would be a pretty good winning captain for India, its about leadership, on and off the field, how you work your bowlers, batting order, field placings. In this, i don't think Dravid in one of the worlds best captains. I don't agree with their choice either to be honest..
Ok. Ponting as Test and ICC player of the year is justified, easily so. Ponting 1700 runs at over 60, 9 tons and 7 50's in 16 matches?? That doesn't get Test player of the year in your book??
ODI award was a toss up between Hussey and Yuvraj, so it could have gone either way, I think they should have both got it but..
Captains were a bit of a joke, but always are.

I also think that the awards did not go to the right people. But Hussey being best ODI player is well accepted as he is one of the greatest finishers of the game and currently, in ratings, he is at the top. Some selections werent good as there was only one SA player(Ntini) getting a place in the ICC test team. Shaun Pollock is currently the number 1 ODI bowler in the ratings but he did not get selected.

They didn't win the awards because they simply didn't perform the best.
