This needs to be a song that captures the "feel" and essence of each decade of the rock era. This does not necessarily have to be the "best" song.

Here's a list I think could work:

1940's: My Gal’s a Jockey - Big Joe Turner
1950's: Love is Strange - Mickey & Sylvia
1960's: A Summer Song - Chad & Jeremy
1970's: The Hustle - Van McCoy
1980's: Walking in L.A. - Missing Persons
1990's: Push It - Garbage
2000's: Love Like Winter - A.F.I.

OK, I included the 1940's but you can start with the 1950's if you like. Now I'd like to see what you come up with.

I couldn't possibly go back further than the 70s.

1970's:Ram Jam - Black Betty
1980's:Kiss - Crazy Nights
1990's:Prodigy - Firestarter
2000's: Green Day - American Idiot

I may be a bit political with my choices here & I may have my decades mixed up completely but my memory is giving up on me :-)
