What you can do is get the hard disk out and connect it to a USB converter kit and then back up the data on to a PC or another laptop.

Connect the HDD back and you can do whatever you please in the system recovery, it will be a very good oppurtunity for learning of what is to be done.

You need to hit f10 or whatever it says when you first power it on and change it to boot from cd. Then after you run the repair disk change it back to the HD0 or whatever it was booting to first. You could also try removing the disk hitting f8 key and going through safe mode to reset it back using the system restore under the control panel.

You can reinstall the OS without formatting the hard drive. If it's in warranty, you can get it fixed or take it to a repair shop.

It sounds to me like you have a problem bigger than you can handle and in order to avoid things getting worse, take the laptop to the Geek squad at Best buy or some other shop and have them do it for you. It will cost you a little but you will have your laptop back to normal by professionals.
Do it and don't think about it.

I think the best you can do is to take it to a computer shop and let the masters handle it. = )
