There are more than 800 active satellites currently in orbit. They represent four percent of the total number of objects currently cataloged by the U.S. space surveillance network; the rest includes abandoned satellites, spent rocket boosters, and other debris.

None that are actually orbiting, since any satellite actually in the atmosphere would probably be on its way down to a flameout and maybe a crash. All orbiting satellites are, by design, orbiting sufficiently high above where presence of atmosphere gases are negligible.
