well, I don't know much about the country. I'm aware that they are struggling with poverty, AIDS, guerilla warfare and other such epidemics.
Aside from that, they produce some great long distance runners. I believe their runners now top Kenya's runner in the track and field and road racing circuit.

i worked in a retail store in a neighborhood that is located next to a huge american ethiopian community. they would always come in a treat our african american employees really bad. there was a guy from ghana that was arguing with an ethiopian customer about whos country was poorer. it ended in a fist fight that was broken up by police.
