I assume you are refering to embryonic stem cell research, which has shown no real promise or potential of success and healing like some people would like you to believe.

The website below lists the various embryonic stem cell lines that have been studied by several groups for years now and without any hint of success.

Like any kind of research, there are no guarantees about the outcome. It is possible that nothing useful will come out of it. In that case, all the research funding *could* be wasted. We won't know until it is completed.

However, it is a given that new tools and methods will be created during the research process. And most certainly, there will be new scientific knowledge and accidental discoveries during the research that will provide unexpected benefits. That may be worth much more than any medical outcomes from stem cell research.

Their is a difference between stem cell research and embryonic stem cell research. President Bush authorized funding for stem cell research but not embryonc stem cell research because this involves cloning and killing unborn infants.

I don't think people should have to pay for it if they don't want to.. but in the same respect, I don't think people should be stopped from fund raising for it.. I usually side with liberals on most issues, but on this one, I think the government should stay out of it.
