to seek or examine goods, property, etc., offered for sale: Retail merchants shopping).
to seek a bargain, investment, service, etc. (Shopping for services)
to seek or examine goods, property, etc., offered for sale (Real estate shopping)

to buy some staff you need whatever these goods are ,cloth,food,drink.gifts
but real meaning is when you have some money and you don't know what to do you go for shopping to lose some money and back with some full bags :)))

Hopping from shop to shop means shopping. It can be window-shopping when you look but don’t buy. It can be earnest shopping when you buy what is needed. It can be gift shopping when your heart is set on giving…Christmas is coming. It can be ‘shop till you drop’ that is buying, buying, buying. It could be ‘splurge’ that is lavish spending…pure overindulgence. Wedding shopping, jewelry shopping, festival shopping, online shopping…etc., etc.
