HP compaq being Cheap and best.

I prefer Dell is the best option.
It gives features with the price.
and is the Best Value for you money.
Second comes Lenovo.
You can customize your dell laptop the way you want.
You can change any component you want and that flexibility helps and it gives more options then hp as well.

If you has also specified your budget then I would be able to give you model options as well.

I would say Dell, maybe Lenovo

However if you are oing to be writing manuals or documentation native language support is available for Mac OS X.. so a MacBook might be good too.

The best versus the cheapest, etc.

All can run Windows XP and Vista.. so it's up to you really.
