I think that swearing kinda helps the artist (no matter the genre, could be rap, rock, whatever) express themselves throughout the song. Venting off anger or whatnot. If you don't like swearing, buy the clean, edited version of the CD then.

Swearing is a sign of a poor education. I would assume those who LIKE to listen to an artist swear feel it gives them a license to do so as well. It's pretty silly. It seems to make some people feel "bigger", like a false bravado.
What they don't realize is that grown-ups don't talk like that -- at least outside of Los Angeles.

Elvis, Frank, Led Zepplin and the Beetles really needed that swearing to sell. I think the shock of setting their piano on fire and then marrying their cousin (Jerry Lee Lewis) is too shocking for them.

yep. Dumb arses buy albums like that because that is the only thing their brains can process. They don't need songs with meanings, it is too exhausting for them.
