how can i be a good film director?

im 22 years old and i wanna b a director ............but i dont no where to start actually i know my aim but i dont knoe my ways..plz help me out

See, the way i see it, if u want to be a director there are a couple of things you should know about yourself before thinking of venturing into it. i am assuming here that you "are" serious about taking up direction.

As direction is a way by which you express your idea's to people it is very important that you realize who you are as a person. which is to say that you should be very very clear about what u like,don't like,what inspires you,intrigues you etc. n stuff You first have to figure out which level of intellect you belong to. i know that it might be sounding a lil abstract....

what i'm tryin to say is that you should start watching as many different films as you can.keep exploring. imdb top 250 is a reasonable benchmark to start out with. once you have actually seen say 100-200 movies you'll realize that only a "certain" type of movies or directors for that matter that inspire you. or certain subjects that inspire you. this is the really critical stage...for this will define the rest of ur career...i guess.

once you know what you "want" to do you can set out even with a normal handycam and with some of the softwares available you can get a decent production.

now you can actually show people your amateur stuff and try n get some funding. then you can like actually make a movie or sumthing.

what i mean to say is that before going for direction do u actually know what kind of movies you intend to make. i mean even if i don't talk about the subject dealt with in a film even then it could be shown through say an 30 second ad or a 20 minute film or a 2 hr film

First get a basic graduate degree. Till then keep reading about Cinema in general and Indian Cinema in particular. Learn some good English, beacause most of the best books on Cinematography and Direction are in English or French (and some in Japanese). Visit the Film And Television Institute at Pune, and get to know the admission process. After graduation, apply to the Institute for the Film Direction Course.

If you set your goal seriously and work for it , you will succeed. By any chance, if you do not get admission in Pune , there are some Institutions in Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai which have provisions for In house training in all departments of Film production.

You want to be a director? Well, start with simpler things like stage acting, and when you`ve gotten good at that, start using a camera and make some short movies!

well, u really need some help;

ask few things about ur self,

1) have u been able to "de-code" all current & old classical advertisement; which "capsule" emotions in 10-15 seconds

2) what emotion each of the scenes of classical movies have evoked - in public.
ie an angry gorilla sniffs a red-scarf and cools down;
"....... only bastards die for their country........",
"....... hole is a hole is a ......",
".......... hum to mar gaye tere pyar me, hai tujhako jane kab , jane kab khabar hogi......", etc

3) can you make somebody do it for you in repeat sequences / re-takes

4) can you sustain arrogances of small & big artists; for 2-3 years;

these have to be in you only;
rest " tips and re-finements, money from Producers will come, almost automatically"...........

so, get ur "strengths" checked before you step out in "scorching hot sun"
