I live in the UK. An American friend recently wrote and asked me if Tony Blair (in other words, the UK) really believed in global warming after a comment that Tony had made on TV regarding the UK agreeing to come up with a global warming solution for Britain. Obviously, she doesn't believe it. Is this the opinion of just some Americans or most Americans?

Of course they do, but Bush gets in the way. However
"Arnie" Schwarzenegger has approved in the State of
California, which is the largest polluter, to follow the
Kioto guidelines which Bush refuses to sign. Al Gore is
doing his part and, this week has agreed to help as an
aid to Tony Blair, who also has an agreement with Arnie.
This is a powerful trio and will encourage others to join,
perhaps without the Bush administration who, in the end
will have to sign. Incidentally, in the USA each state has
its‘s own legislation and several are already following
Arnie‘s Californian decision. USA Democrats are in
favour of the Kioto agreement and, the USA elections
for Congess and Senate are nest Tuesday, the result
of these elections may become the turning point. Let‘s
hope so. Cheers, Iain

I have some serious doubts about it myself... but most Americans do believe that global warming IS happening and that WE are the ones making it happen.

My problem is that ONE volcano can spew almost as much or more CO2 into the atmosphere as we do in emissions per a given year.

Plus the truth that only 30 short years ago climatologists were warning the world about the eminent global COOLING that was occuring.

I don't know, I'm really skepitcal because I feel the whole thing has been hijacked by left wing militants to kill economic growth and freedom...

sure greater desirable CO2 will heat the earths environment, yet what with reference to the "Carbon Sink" of the oceans. interior the earths geologic previous whilst worldwide temperatures have been seen to upward thrust, and Ice became all yet non-existent, even in Antarctica, at a time whilst its relative place became nonetheless over the South Pole. Biologic pastime interior the oceans advance and great Limestone and Dolostone deposits are the consequence. the quantity of Carbon locked up in all those rocks is extensive, countless orders greater than each and all the fossil gasoline (Oil, Coal, and so on) supplies ever created and or burned. Than mankind has induces all this "Warming" is silly. We provide ourselves too plenty credit that we are able to outclass the sunlight and distinctive orbital adjustments of the Earth with the aid of fact the main suitable reason for atmospheric warming. There are some distance too many variables in Atmospheric dynamics, the two basic and unknown variables, to lump all of them at the same time in some pc fashions. The fashions that have compatibility the tip result wanted are used and right away grab media interest, at an analogous time as the fashions which tutor cooling, or different than wanted effects are positioned on the lower back shelf of academia with the aid of fact they have not any WOW ingredient for the media and the time table of many interior the human led to worldwide Warming debate. there is in basic terms too plenty political capital and media money to risk to have issues any opposite direction.

Hard to tell what "most" Americans believe about things unless they are national issues on the ballet. I can only speak from those with whom I am acquainted, far from the 300 million opinions here.

In my experience, people who have been fed this in the government school system believe it until they're in the real world. So, most under 22 do believe in it; most others do not subscribe to the theory. YMMV -- The People's Republik of Massachusetts excluded. ;-)

It is more likely we will be destroyed by terrorists long before we are affected by global warming. We do have more important things to be concerned about.

I don't see how anyone can say it is just a theory when the planet is obviously getting warmer, as evidenced by the melting of glaciers and the north polar ice cap. What concerns me is that it may not be within our power to stop it.
