Relationship marketing is based on the premise that important accounts need focused and continuous attention. Sales people must do more than just call on a customer when they "think" they might need a product or service.
Interaction and communication among any and every business that may bring business your way is to be investigated and pursued. Limousine companies work with hotels/motels/airports to provide and support a customer base. Travel agencies work with government agencies, schools, churches, teacher unions, labor unions to provide services at prices conducive to using the travel agencies services.
Transaction-based marketing relies on a salesman "pitching" a service or product to a specific buyer or user.
