my birthday is today and i also feel like crap. i always seem to have bad birthday. every year i think it will be better but it never is. i will keep thinking about past crappy birthdays and get more and more depressed as the day goes on. this is not my personality at all either. usually i'm the most cheerful person in the room. maybe this year will be different, at least now i know i'm not the only one that feels this way. thanks for asking this question and i hope you had a happy birthday.

Yes, I have experienced this. I think this happen because your birthday reminds you of your age and makes you review your current situation in life. It makes you realise about you future and brings back the memories of how you endured all the pain in the past.

There is something that makes you lament over the past, gives you a surreal and uneasy feeling about reaching this point in present, and makes you anxious about the future. And it makes you wonder how time passed by so quickly (or slowly). It is just an unavoidable reality check happening in your mind.

Close your eyes and thank god for all the good things you have in life.

Don't worry, you have a wonderful life ahead. If you still feel that way, plan to get a pet or take care of a plant and do some meditation. I wish you a very happy birthday. May god bless you and give you a happy and phosphorus (oops..i'meant prosperous) life.

Cheers

Sometimes, bc another year is added to my age, I strat to think of times when I was younger, and the freinds who I had at the time, or the fun times that I miss. What usually helps is when I get calls or people who tell me "happy birthday" bc then I remember that the time I am at now has it's greatness...although I may not be in touch with those who I was in touch with before..or even have the same ambitions I once did..I try to remember that everything happens for a reason, and then try to appreciate what is going right in my life.
I'm not xure if that's even close to what you're feeling, but my answer is basically yes..it does happen to me some years.

Sure. I am guessing it is completely normal. I think there is too much hype about turning 16, 18, 21, 25, 30, 40, etc. Notice that I seemed to pick the ages where something happens, right? (25 being the age that your insurance rates should drop - at least for cars). Taking each day at a time is key to living a healthy life. I treasure the memories I have...and I'm 33 now (especially with my family). Now go buy yourself a cake and eat it with a friend.

Yes. For the past couple of years I've noticed myself to be quite irritable and or depressed on my birthday. I'm not even old yet. Not sure why this is. I like that you mentioned nostlgia for it is a bittersweet feeling isn't it? If you're at least nostalgic about it hopefully it means that you're happy as well as sad. Hope you feel better (it's only one day after all ) Happy birthday!

ok I was depressed when I turned 30 looking where I was in life and definately I wasn't anywhere where I thought I would be. Then in April I just turned 40 and I think I felt much better knowing that in those 10 years I did a lot of growing and worked on some self changes. I think everyone gets depressed as time seems to go faster and faster. Enjoy because you close your eyes one day and then you wake being 40.

Only once, when I turned 31. Not sure why, turning 30 was a bit of fun, reaching a milestone. Maybe it was a realisation I was getting older. But that was over 25 years ago and I havent had that feeling since. At least not on my birthday.

I turned 28 this summer and I was really depressed most of the day. I'm hoping once I achieve more in my life, I'll experience less regret on birthdays. Remember, age is just a number. True youthfullness comes from your spirit.

Yes definately. I am not much older then you however I am suddenly struck by how fast life is moving and how far I haven't got. How many things I haven't achieved that I should have done by now.

I worry about the future and wonder what will my life be like.

yes...I think that's kind of normal.....you think..."I remember when I was 10, or 20....times seemed so much better then"......for me they were at least.......and you think to yourself...."what the heck has happened over the years that my life is so messed up and I'm always worried about this or that," but then you also remember that when you were a kid you had worries too, only they were a different set of worries that now wouldn't bother you.
Then you also see the cool things about your new age, whatever they are.
