my sister wants to study marine biology but she doesn't want to go far away from home, but she doesn't know which university to attend.

I've heard UCLA has a good program; one of the Marine Science Academy teachers at my old school took a program there. But also UC Santa Barbara, since it has the additional benefit of being right next to a beach. Also UC San Diego, I think.

Depending upon the type of school she wants to go to, both CSUN and CSULB (Northridge and Long Beach) have Marine Biology programs. Occidental and Loyola Marymount both mention it within their biology departments, and while I couldn't find it on their website, I know someone who studied it at USC.
