The Strokes
"Whatever Happened" off 2003's Room On Fire
I wanna be forgotten/ and I don't wanna be reminded/
you said please don't make this harder/ no I won't / yet
I wanna be beside her/ she wanna be admired/ you said please don't make this harder/ no I won't / yet
oh dear is it really all true? / did they offend us and they want it to sound new?/ top ten ideas for countdown shows/ who's culture is this and does anybody know? / I wait and tell myself life ain't chess/ but no one comes in and yes your alone/ you don't miss me I know/ oh tennessee what did you write? / I come together in the middle of the night/ oh thats an ending that I can't write cuz I've got you/ to let me down/

Well, Chralotte Martin would be very new, and Keane is not a bad band. Muse would be a safe bet. My Morning Jacket, except for the sappy and whining songs, about 25% of their stuff. Umphrey's McGee aren't too much into lyrics, but Brendan pull off a good one more and more often. And from the older stuff:
Peter Gabriel
David Sylvian
Joni Mitchell
Kate Bush
Tori Amos
Happy Rhodes
David Bowie
XTC
Edie Brickell
Radiohead, in their own geeky sense

Nickelback is a very nice band.Their new album "All the Right Reasons "
is awesome. If u wanna try a pop album then go 4 Backstreetboys' "Incomplete". Female rock Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway". If u need R&B then go 4 The Pussycat Dolls' "PCD". These albums have succeeded with 4 or 5 hit singles each and Multiplatinum in many countries.

Ok, this is my love of country music coming out, but I would say Alabama
George Strait
Reba McEntire
Alabama, Love in the 1st Degree (Song about falling for someone)
"I once thought of love as a prision, a place I didn't want to be. So long ago I made a decision to be footloose and fancy free. But you came and I was so tempted to gamble on love just one time. I never thought that I would get caught, it seemed like the perfect crime....Baby, you left me defenseless
I've only got one plea
Lock me away inside of your love
And throw away the key
I'm guilty of love in the first degree"
Reba: Fancy (a daughter being sent to prostitution by her ma)
"I remember it all very well looking back it was the summer I turned 18. We lived in a one room run down house on the outskirts of New Orleans. We didn't have money for food or rent, to say the least we were hard pressed, them momma spent every penny we had to buy me a dancing dress..."
George Strait - any song.

Spock's Beard
I've heard tons of music, and this group has been very consistent in songwriting, and clever lyrics, as well as very good playing. It's melodic, thought provoking, bombastic, and reflects many moods that I have had. Sorry not much for love songs though, the Beatles have that category cornered still.

Depends on your tastes. Savage Garden was popular in the `90s before the band split, but the music is still insanely awesome. I also love Darren Hayes, who was the lead singer of Savage Garden. He writes his own lyrics and music, and they're so profoundly amazing.
