ok so i wanna give the facts about being a server at places like olive garden, tgi fridays, chilis and places like that....servers hourly wage starts off at 2.17 a hour up to 2.80 if your lucky we bust our *** all day with people who try to scam the company out of free stuff everyday and we have to deal with insults from rude guest on a regular basis now you can walk out with over a 100 a night if you had a very great night with no screw up from the cooks, hostesses, or just bullshit complaints of the guest but most restruant demand a tip out if they have a bar that means we have to tip out a certain percentage of our "total" sells now tgi fridays has a 3% tip out wich means if you made 100 tonight u most likely sold 900 dollars worth of food and drinks now that means we have to give 30 dollars of that hundred to the bartender and hostesses some places even bussers so next time u go to a restruant and have a 125 dollars check dont tip 4 when we get to keep 70 cents!! we have bills too

I totally understand what your saying. nobody, unless theyve worked in a restaurant before, knows that we pay tip-out. So when they leave crappy tips it really does suck cause we get to keep half of their crappy tip. I had that tonight. 55 dollar tab and the people left me four freaking dollars. i was so mad. and a ps to zen whoever you are. "Get an education and a real job?" who are you john kerry now. im working at a restaurant to pay for school. so therefore im getting and education and working in a restaurant is a real job. you get paid for it and have to put up with ***holes like you. probably more than youve ever done in life.

first off........if you sold $900 in sales and only came out with $100, u better rethink your profession. i have servers that sell only $500 and come out with with over $100......
second.....these people that your griping about tipping out make your job easier.......from that hostess that sat you, the busser that cleaned up after you, to the bartender that made your drinks that you have no clue how to make, to the expo that made the plate presentation wow your customer, to the hostess , again, that had the friendly demour to your customer......because they were the last person they will remember and hopefully they will back again....yes, tipping out stinks, but then again, you are not the only person that customer comes in contact with. All these people make or break what the customer sees and feels while they are at that restaurant. Even the managers.....their enthusiasm or lack of.....you work at a chain restauant. It's a group effort to please the customers. I hear it all the time about tipping out.......by the way, i have been there in your shoes...did the serving, did the hosting, did the bartending....now the manager. And in the long run, it really is a team effort to make great money waiting tables. Been there, done it

When I go to a sit down restaurant, I do tip well. I know how it is, and all the ins and outs, because I have 2 sisters who have always been (and probably always will be) servers. If I am happy with my service, I leave around 30%. However, you have to earn it. And I mean, for every time I'm sitting there with an empty glass and you're just hanging around at the service area chatting up a busboy, your tip goes down. The longer I wait for you to come to my table, your tip comes down. If you are the least bit nasty to me, your tip goes down. And before someone calls me an a s shole, I am very courteous to service workers, because I worked my way through college at HARDEE'S, so I understand being shat on by customers. I'm nice to a fault to them, even if I am slowly getting pis sed off!
I just don't want to sit there thirsty, or wait 15 minutes for my check when the server has already taken my dishes away.

So, earn your tip, and you'll get it. Otherwise.......

I feel that if you can't aford to tip, you should stay home. I tip at least 20% unless the service is terrible. If the service is great, I feel 25% is fair because great service makes the meal so much better.

Servors aren't the only ones with **** jobs- I work at a grocery store deli, so I imagine that the customers are about the same. No offense, but I don't understand this- why have a job as a server/busboy/etc and ***** about the wages? these jobs are nortorious for having extremely low wages. Unless you live in a town with ONLY a restaurant and no other jobs, FIND ANOTHER JOB! I deal with BS customers, but at least at a safeway grocery store, I make $9 an hour.

DO YOU WANT A TIP?
Get out of the restaurant business!

I could care less about any of that. When I step into your restaurant, I expect to be served courteously, quickly, and correctly. If I have to ask you for crap, if I see people who arrive after me seated and served before me, you get a lower tip. I really don't care if the cook found their steak easier to cook than my pot pie, so he did their order first. Fact is if you **** with my dining experience, I give you a crap tip.

Don't like it? Too bad. Get an education. Get a real job.
