I'm in college and seem to be prone to UTI's i recently had one but it has since cleared up and i'm no longer in any pain; however my urine is still really yellow and cloudy and it is not dehydration...I am always thirsty i must drink at least 6 waters bottles a day and yet my urine is not at all clear it's cloudy and smells foul...i've also been really tired lately and while i was once a morning person i have trouble getting up in the morning and i dont know what to do...I'm scared because I've heard that these are symptoms of diabetes does anyone know if this may be caused by something else?? or should i go to the doctor and tell them I'm concerned and think i'm showing symptoms of diabetes...i dont want them to think i'm a crazy hypochondriac or something

Hi! Regardless of whether or not it turns out you have diabetes, or whether or not they will think you are a hypochondriac (I bet they won't think that) go and have yourself checked out--your symptoms are too serious to ignore. I am not a medical person, so I will not try to diagnose you;. I am, however a diabetic, and I can say that being overly thirsty and having to urinate often, especially at night, and being tired all the time, can be signs of diabetes, but may possibly be symptoms of kidney problems or something else. So don't assume it is diabetes. If diabetes runs in your family, if you are experiencing vision problems if you are hungry all the time and obese, these factors would increase the likelihood of diabetes--but until you have your doctor run some simple tests to see if your blood sugars are high you will not know. Even if you do have diabetes--the prognosis is not as bad as it once was and there are many medications out now to help--even insulin inhalers--so if you exercise and eat carefully you should be able to lead a "normal life", but you don't even know that you have it yet. It could be something unrelated to diabetes. So do get yourself checked out. You'll be glad you did.

The symptoms od diabetes is high apettite, thirst and water compsuption without gain weight assuming you are a young person (bcause you re in the college). However there are other medical conditions that mimics these symptoms, like Diabetes Insipida (a deficiency in the production or in the sensibility od an hormone called antidiuretic)
The best advice, visit a doctor he is the only one that can rule out any posibility, have the benefit of the knowledge
best of the lucks

I totally understand where you are coming from. I get lots of UTI's. Those symptoms sound more like another UTI than diabetes. If you are really worried, you can go to any pharmacy where you can buy a pee test to see if there are keytones in your urine--which can be a sign of diabetes (or a sign that you're losing lots of weight).

When I was in college, I kept having to go to the health center to get antibiotics to clear it up. Not only did I get bombarded with questions about being pregnant, but they wanted to test me for STDs. I finally got sick of it all (b/c I was never pregnant and I didn't have any STDs), and talked to my family doctor about it. She prescribed a daily pill (generic name: nitrofunantoin) to take to keep the UTI's at bay. If I did get another UTI, I simply doubled my dosage for a week until it went away again. For me, it was WONDERFUL!! It saved me from many more trips to the student health center!

Don't be afraid to go to the doctor to get yourself checked. Dark urine and constant thirst are definitely symptoms of diabetes.
