Never drink store bought cranberry juice... make your own by boiling cranberries. It is the bitterness that helps. Store concoctions are like soda beverages and are full of sugar (and will make your situation worse) AND.. they are too low in actual cranberries! Blueberries (eaten fresh) have a wonderful affect on your infection because of their ability to fight infection. Some doctors say they are as good or better than cranberries. (they certainly taste better!)

I read a health article that said to drink alka-seltzer immediately and I tried it and it worked! It stopped the acid in my urine so I think I prevented an infection by acting fast. Acid is bad, avoid acidic juices like orange juice. The more bitter and less sugar, the better for this situation.

Now for herbs.. I was CURED by buchu! Uva Ursi, Marshmallow and Juniper Berries are good too! Try to find a product that has them all in there. Natures Way has good products, but they are better as preventatives.

And finally, drink several glasses of water each hour until you flush the infection out. Never drink carbonated beverages because they will cause bladder infections. If that is your trigger (it is usually sodas or sugar) then you need to learn to avoid your trigger.. sadly it is usually the thing you love to eat or drink the most! And after sex, always make sure to pee in the first 5 minutes!! Make it happen!! Drink water, etc. but make sure you do it or you can get a nasty infection from that! I used to get bladder infections all the time (until I took Buchu) and I know how much they hurt and I have learned how to treat myself.

Your goal is to get well fast and to avoid antibiotics. My past problems with bladder infections lead to my present allergy to antibiotics. My drug allergies are getting worse, in fact, almost life threatening. Learn to avoid them if you can!

BTW.. if you see blood in your urine, stop self medicating and see the Dr.! If you can self medicate fast enough with the right herbs, you will heal quickly.

Lots of water and cranberry juice but not cranberry cocktail to much sugar is added, you need pure cranberry juice, if the taste is to strong them dilute it with water or ice and drink nothing else at this time no soda or teas. There is also over the counter pills sold at the drug stores that are mostly cranberry but also have something in them to ease the pain, I have used them and they work very well and fast, but just so you know very shortly are you take them your urine will be a very dark orange color and that is normal. But beleive me it helps. I found out on a weekend when i COULD NOT GO TO THE DOCTORS! However if the infection doesn't clear up after drinking at least 2 or 3 full bottles of juice, in 3 to 4 days you will need to be seen. A bladder infection not taken care of can lead to a more serious infection in the kidneys. If you are not taking any of the pills for the pain and you notice blood even just a little in your urine you need to get to the doctors right now. That usually means your kidneys are involed by then and cranberry will not help then.

I not sure that is possible. If you feel a bladder infection coming on and it's not a full infection yet, flushing your bladder out with tons of acidic juices like Cranberry or Orange will help. Or drinking a few beers will help. But, if you are in the middle of a bladder infection it's best to just go to the doc and get the antibiotics.

You should NOT drink cranberry juice when you have an active infection. Cranberry juice is a great preventative, but will only irritate the bladder when you have an infection.

Take lots of vitamin C. Vitamin creates an acidic environment and bacteria can't live in it.

These things will help, but it's really best to see a doctor and take antibiotics if you have an infection. An untreated infection can lead to kidney infections which are even more excruciating and potentially damaging than bladder infections.

I'm not sure how to cure a bladder infection, but I do know a remedy for controlling a leaky bladder.
Most everyone has only heard of Cranberry Juice, and that can get really difficult to drink, as it has such a strong taste. Rejoice, here's one that works almost instantly, tastes great, and comes in many flavors. It's Gatorade!
Yep, Gatorade. You won't believe how fast it stops bladder leakage...literally overnight.
This isn't something I just heard about, it's a true life testimonial that I lived.

The answers posted referring to cranberry juice and lots of water are good answers. However, there are lots of causes of bladder infections (also known as urinary tract infections). At least one of the causes is chlamydia, a sexually transmitted disease. Cranberry juice isn't going to cure chlamydia, but a good dose of antibiotics will cure both it and the UTI.

If cranberry juice doesn't make you feel better within 24-36 hours you should seek medical advice, a bladder infection is usually minor, but if not treated properly can cause serious problems.

Yes, cranberry juice is effective prior, helps prevent them. When you know you have it, penicillin from the dr. is only way to get infection out. (i think)

I had a nurse friend that got something from a Rx, but I forgot the name. You may google on web and find other solutions.

Lots of water and cranberry juice. Eat lots of cottage cheese and yogurt (will take the infection out). If you can handle it drink butter milk, that also takes the infection out.

Cranberry juice and water. My friend just got out of the hospital for kidney stones, and the doc told her to drink a beer a week.
