Rules for choosing a good topic:
1) The topic is something you are interested in.
2) The topic is something you already know a little about.
3) The topic is proper to speak about ("the benefits of pornography" is not a good topic)

Some helpful tips:
1) If the presentation is short, a good topic is how to do something or a focused lecture on one topic ("war" is bad, "World War II" is so-so, "Death Camps in Germany in World War II" is best.)
2) Try to choose a topic with a natural structure. For example, how to do something always has a set order. Other historical subjects also have a set order in time. Having a set order will save you time when it comes to memorizing your speech.
3) When you have your topic, PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! The more times you do it, the better you'll be.

Pick a topic you are interested in. Cars? Sports? Books? Computers? Gardening? Trust me, if you are already interested in it, it will be easier to do a presentation on it.

I once gave a speech on how to do origami. What is your talent or interest?
