I was given the chance to pick out what type of computer I want for work in the graphic design industry. Mac or PC? and which type to choose?

Graphic Designing is always MAC.

I'm in the printing buisiness (also) and use MAC machines for the designing.

Graphic design ey?

Well, I'd go with PC because there are tons of great software, which is unavailable for the MAC OS. I have Mac computers in my school and when I compare them with my PC, well...they don't compare. The Macs always freeze up when you have a few programs running... if they'll run.

Stick with PC. By the way, Windows Vista is coming soon so be on the lookout!

Graphic Design?

Mac.

You'll want to talk to potential employers, or people you can find that have been in the business for a while and see what they like.

My suggestion is Mac.

It depends on your needs first and then cost most of the manufactures like dell hp use new processers in there sales pitch but have old tech in there system beware of this like saying 320 gig harddrive but is it ide or sata II memory ddr or the latest ddr2 dual channel. I do this for a living and I get asked this all the time. I build with the newest tech out there and there very fast. Making choices for your home and business needs is my company moto.

My son (IT Specialist) tells me that MACs are best for running graphics programs. I don't know enough about them these days to advise you...sorry.
