Dermatologist?

I know this may seem like a stupid question, but where can I go to see these "dermatologists" people speak of? Where are they? Clinics? Do I just go up to them or book an appointment with them?

~You can get a referral from a doctor
~You can open the yellow pages phone book and search the yellow pages for a dermatologist, could be listed under Skin (something or other)( but not advisable)
~You can open the white pages phone book and search hospital names which have listings of all of their departments - dermatology
~The county hospital will be in the white pages but under the government section (this is usually associated with clinics).
~You can ask friends and family if they have a dermatologist or used to use one that they'd recommend

All of this depends on if you have insurance or not.

You generally will need to see your primary care physician first and you will be referred to a dermatologist in your area. Most will not see you without a primary's referral and usually your insurance carrier will not pay unless you are referred.

Look up a dermotologist individually. Make sure you book an appointment early. I had to make appointments 6 months in advance!

i saw a dermatologist through my doctor. i went to the doctor first and they set up an appointment for me

You can google your city and state or you can just look in your phonebook. Most dermatologists have free consults.

The best way is to be referred by your family doctor. He knows exactly where to sent you.
