The first answerer is good. My son was the same way. It took several years of speech therapy before his speech included all the sounds. He eventually was diagnosed with an auditory processing disorder. He could not distinguish between similar sounds like b and p in his brain.
This made it very hard for him to learn to read. Since he could not distinguish sounds, breaking the sounds of a word into letter sounds was just impossible for him. We found a speech therapist who could do a program called Fast Forword, to train the brain to distinguish sounds. That gave him the ability to start to learn to read. I would recommend it if you find that this is the root of his problem, as soon as possible.
