The Roman numerals are written in parentheses after the cation (the positive ion) to show the oxidation state of the cation. Example: CuO is Cu(II)O, Cu*2O is Cu(I)*2O.

Heiress, I see you're coming here for a lot of homework help. That's good, but I don't know that you're going to learn much chemistry (only get answers for your exam). Have you considered hiring a tutor or studying with a friend to help learn all of this material? It would probably help you a great deal more than putting your daily homework on Yahoo! Answers.
