if i want to write a program to collect my mail at yahoo without using any tool provided by any OS /browser,?

how should I begin? Basically how to contact the yahoo mail server storing my mail ? Does yahoo provide direct access to POp3/Imap service at standard port?

don't u need yahoo premission first if u are going to login by a code there server might thing of u as a hacker
