as you get older, guessing that you are pretty young, it gets easier..the doctor part..its all part of taking good care of yourself..as for the tampons, that gets easier too, and they are a lot more comfortable and there is no odor issue

You can totally go your whole life using pads. Using a tampon is a choice, not something that is forced upon you. If you are not comfortable with them, there is no point in buying them.
As for not being comfortable going to the gyn, you might want to consider forcing yourself to get through an exam, but let the doctor know you aren't comfortable. It is important to have a full physical so if there are any tests later that come up a little weird they have a baseline to reference. I don't know how old you are, but I was told that you should get a yearly exam starting at 17/18 and before that if you are sexually active.
Just take care of yourself and don't let anyone force something upon you that is uncomfortable.

I hate tampons. I have used pads now for 28 years. I find tampons very uncomfortable, and I hate removing them.
Eventually you will need to start having yearly pelvic exams. I know it's uncomfortable. No one likes it. You need to take care of your health, though, and that includes your private areas. When you start to freak out about having to go to the gynecologist, remind yourself that you are going because you are taking care of your body and your health, and that is a good thing, not a bad thing.

No..you don't have to use a tampon. A pad is fine as long as your
flow isn't that heavy. But me...I HAVE to use tampons or I will
probably bleed to death. My flow is really heavy and the only way
I can control it is with tampons. My sis is lucky...she doesn't ever
use tampons..her periods were never as bad as mine. So, now
she is on the pill, and she barely gets a period at all. I'll just wait
till menopause hits...then viola!! Problem solved. heehee

Girl, I completely understand how you feel. I started when I was 11, which was 16 years ago. I used tampons, never really. I used pads because I could never get the tampon in myself! I actually didnt start to use them until after I had sex (when I was 18). I think it sorta opened things up for me. Not to worry you or anything, but I didnt actually start to use them reguarly til after I had my son, which was just 6 years ago. It'll happen when your ready. And going to the gyno isnt all that bad, its natural, and the best way for us to get checked. Email me if you need more answers. :)

No you don't need to use a tampon. However, you will have to get over the thought of "anything" near your private region if you want to maintain good health. The once a year pelvic exam is necessary if you don't want to get cervical cancer.
It is unpleasant, and can be painful, but there are other things that are much worse, more painful and more embarrassing.

Honey, don't feel bad. I am 27 and I have used a tampon maybe two or three times. Pads are fine to use all the time. It's just whatever you feel comfortable with.

No there is nothing wrong with just using pads. Many women don't like using tampons. There isn't anything wrong with that. Use which ever makes you comfortable.

So sorry honey, but the yearly exams are a must. The good news is they do get easier. As for how you deal with the monthly flow, that is a completely personal decision, which will change as new products are available, and as your cycle changes with age.
