Not that males don't ever do this, but many girls & women seem to have such a problem with this. No offense, just a lifelong observation.

When someone writes something like: "Wow your stupid", I always write back "What exactly is it that my stupid does that's so exciting? Please quit writing in fragments."

I've never noticed a gender bias, but if I had to guess why you have, I'd say it's because women generally have more of a desire to express themselves through writing, so you encounter women's writing more frequently.

A "lifelong observation?" What, are you a teacher who's noticed this throughout your career? I consider myself something of a grammarian, so I notice this sort of thing all the time, and I can say that this is NOT anything I've observed as more prevalent in one sex or the other. I've observed both sexes make this mistake, as well as confusing "their, they're, and there" AND not knowing the difference between "then" and "than." In general, I've noticed these mistakes are very prevalent on Y Answers, but not that one sex is worse than the other.

I know that this happens, more often than it should, but I never paid attention to this mistake by gender. Because they have different pronunciation and meaning, I wonder how people make this mistake. I guess they don't know the difference!

I'm sure there will be at least one person who will be defensive about your question. Those will be the people that use your and you're interchangeably!

Hmm, I never thought of that as a female thing... just a careless thing that anyone can do. I'm female and a good speller, so I don't know. That one is a pet peeve of mine though!

For iammissmess... the reason he can tell whether a person means "you're" or "your" is because they are two very different words. "You're" means you are. As in "You're stepping on my foot." "Your" is a possessive word... as in "Oops, I'm sorry I stepped on your foot." You cannot mix them up, it would be like mixing up "I'm" and "My." They are different words. Make sense?

Amongst my friends, my male friends do this more than my female friends. I find males to be far worse spellers than females! (No offense, just my own lifelong observation!)

I think that particular error is bi-sexual and very common. I would like to defend all females but after considering your/you're observation I might not qualify!
LOL
Cheers!

In speech or the written word? The answer could be education or even with the way that people correspond, with texting, chat, etc.. I will admit that I'm no expert on grammar, but with the technology we all use, I think that we forget correct spelling and contractions. Where's my spell check?!

I think that is equal on both parts and a thing with a lot of people.

They should just think about if they are saying You are (adjective) or Your (subject). Or think of you're as 2 words.

I don't think either gender does it more than the other. I think it is generally lack of proper grammar by both genders. Your question seems incredibly sexist though.
