All known species of potato bug are omnivorous (this means that, like you and me, they eat nearly everything) though in captivity most species do best on a mixture of dried feed/grains, fresh vegetables or fruit, human skin (old scabs), dead bugs or small animals.
Here's a great article about keeping these insects as pets that you might want to read before considering them as a household member:

Hope this helps!

What the heck does a potato bug look like?
Never heard of them. I think they would eat all the other bugs that are trying to eat your potatoes.

The leaves and flowers of the potato plant.

You could try the trick where you submerge part of a potato in water and leave the other half out to make the eyes sprout leaves. It'd take a while though, the critter might starve in the meantime.

There are three species of insects by the name potato bugs:-
a)colorado potato beetle-feeds on potato(both the vegetable and leaves),tomato(leaves too) and egg plants(leaves also).
b)jerusalem cricket-feeds on dead organic material(dead leaves etc.) found near garden plants, they dont eat potatoes.
c)woodlouse-im sure this isnt what you are asking for,but still, they feed on wood.
