i would check the outside of the house to make sure any holes or cracks are stopped up and inside, make sure there is no food source for them. don't leave anything that would attract them out and keep your floors swept. get some traps too.
good luck, i freak over mice too.

1. Killing trap baited with peanut butter and placed along a wall and behind furniture. Reusable and very effective but disposal of bodies unpleasant. Watch your fingers. Don't use if there are pets or small children
2. Live trap..squares of sticky paper..disposal even more unpleasant
3. Packets of bait pellets laced with Warfarin...causes internal bleeding and great thirst...the rodent goes off searching for water
(be sure you don't have any available) never to be seen again
4. Careful inspection of the house to block any place they might enter...this is least effective as they can squeeze thru the tiniest
openings

Exterminators can place devices around your house that keep mice out,you can buy some but I'm not sure if the ones you buy work.Another thing is to get a cat. Most cats are pretty good mousers.Traps and that mouse poison work to some extent, but don't keep more from coming to your house, plus the poison is dangerous around pets and children.Good luck.

If you poison, they can die in a wall and you will have the smell for months. Best is to use a trap. I use live traps then let them loose far from home. You can trap them and have someone dump them if you are too scared. I have a house cat and mice never come in anymore.

I do not know where u r from. but if u r from India, you can try Mortein Ratkill or Roban. You can put the cubes in convenient places in the house and the rats die outside the house. Check and effective solution. No problem of putting messy things and take extra care of pets. as pets avoid this. Not expensive like pest control. So you can put this for as many times as u want.

The quickest way is to set mouse traps but that may freak you out too much to have to discard them. Another alternative is to use the pellets. You just set them out in a corner or on the countertop in the corner away from other pets, etc. The downsize to this is that when they die, you don't have to mess w/ them but you may smell them as they are decomposing.

I would set mouse traps. there are several different kinds, they have regular mouse traps, glue traps, and humane live traps. I would stay away from any type of poison as other animals or pets may get into it. A pet cat would help too!!
